Public postsecondary institutions regulated under chapter 136F or 137 may establish policies restricting visitors from carrying or possessing firearms on institutional property

Visitors carrying firearms in violation of institutional policies may be ordered to leave the premises

Refusing to leave when ordered constitutes a petty misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $25 for a first offense

Firearms carried in violation of visitor policies are not subject to forfeiture under section 609.531

Parking facilities and parking areas remain exempt from firearm restrictions for visitors, consistent with existing exemptions for employees and students
