School districts and charter schools must notify parents or guardians within 24 hours when their student was the target of violence, harassment, or prohibited conduct by another student or school employee

Parents must also be notified within 24 hours when their student engaged in violence, harassment, or prohibited conduct toward others

Schools must notify parents within 24 hours when a teacher, principal, bus driver, or other school agent has used reasonable force against their student

Changes existing law from giving administrators discretion on parental notification to making notification mandatory for both targets and actors involved in prohibited conduct incidents

Effective date is July 1, 2025
