Health plan companies must cover all FDA-approved medical services and prescription medications used to treat or slow the progression of dementia, as well as diagnostic testing to determine treatment appropriateness or effectiveness

Step therapy protocols are prohibited for dementia treatments, meaning insurers cannot require patients to try and fail on cheaper medications before covering prescribed dementia drugs

Medical Assistance (Medicaid) step therapy requirements are amended to include compliance with the new dementia coverage provisions under section 62Q.546

Effective date is January 1, 2026, applying to health plans offered, issued, or renewed on or after that date
