Public schools and charter schools participating in the National School Lunch Program must offer at least one plant-based meal option daily beginning with the 2026-2027 school year

Plant-based meals must exclude all animal products including meat, poultry, fish, dairy, and eggs, and must comply with federal nutrition guidelines

Students or parents must submit a written request to the school nutrition team, which must fulfill the request within four weeks

Minnesota Department of Education must develop implementation guidelines, provide training resources for school nutrition teams, and monitor compliance

Schools must report annually to the department on the number of plant-based meals offered, requests received and fulfilled, and implementation challenges
