Prohibits the transfer, ownership, and possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons in Minnesota, effective August 1, 2026

Expands the definition of "semiautomatic military-style assault weapon" to include semiautomatic rifles and pistols with detachable magazines and specific features (pistol grips, folding stocks, flash suppressors), semiautomatic shotguns with certain features, and firearms with fixed magazines holding more than 10 rounds

Current owners who legally possessed such weapons before January 1, 2027 may keep them by obtaining certification from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by May 1, 2027, with requirements including secure storage, law enforcement inspections, renewal every 3 years, and restrictions on where the weapon may be possessed

Violations of the prohibition constitute a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or a $25,000 fine; violations of certification requirements are a gross misdemeanor for first offense and felony for subsequent offenses

Exempts government officers, armed forces members, and peace officers acting within their duties, as well as licensed manufacturers and dealers selling to military or law enforcement agencies
