Bans the transfer, ownership, and possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons, including AK-47, AR-15, and Uzi types, as well as semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns with specific features like pistol grips, folding stocks, or detachable magazines

Prohibits large-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds, effective July 1, 2026, with current owners required to surrender, modify, or remove them from the state by July 1, 2027

Allows current owners of assault weapons who possessed them before January 1, 2027 to keep them by obtaining certification from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by May 1, 2027, subject to secure storage requirements, law enforcement inspections, and renewal every three years

Establishes felony penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $25,000 fine for violations of the ban or failure to certify grandfathered weapons

Exempts government officers, military personnel, peace officers acting in official duties, and licensed manufacturers/dealers selling to law enforcement or armed forces
