Minnesota Legislature urges the President and Congress to reject the federal Border Lands Conservation Act (S. 2967), which would allow border security infrastructure in wilderness areas including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness

S. 2967 would amend the Wilderness Act of 1964 to permit motor vehicles, motorboats, aircraft operations, roads, fences, surveillance systems, motion sensors, and other detection infrastructure in designated wilderness areas along U.S. borders

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness covers more than one million acres along nearly 150 miles of the Minnesota-Canada border and receives more than 200,000 visitors annually, making it the most visited wilderness in the United States

The resolution directs the Minnesota Secretary of State to transmit copies to the President, congressional leadership, relevant committee chairs, and Minnesota's federal delegation
