Independent school districts with six-member boards and 1,000 or fewer students enrolled (as of October 1 of the preceding year) may put a ballot question to voters on reducing to a five-member board

If voters approve the five-member option, only two board members would be elected at the next election for four-year terms, reducing the board from six to five members

Districts with five-member boards may submit a ballot question at least 150 days before the next election of two board members asking whether to return to six members

If voters approve returning to six members, three members instead of two would be elected at the next board election

Amends Minnesota Statutes section 123B.09, subdivision 1, which currently allows districts to choose between six and seven-member boards
