Voters who register on election day and cannot provide a Minnesota driver's license number, state ID number, or Social Security number must cast a provisional ballot instead of a regular ballot

Provisional ballots are processed 4-7 days after the election; voters can have their ballot counted by appearing at the county auditor or municipal clerk's office during that period to provide acceptable identification

County canvassing board deadlines are extended from the 2nd-3rd day to the 10th day after primaries, and from the 3rd-8th day to the 10th-14th day after general elections

State Canvassing Board meeting deadlines are extended from 7 days to 14 days after primaries, and from 16 days to 24 days after general elections

Effective July 1, 2026, applying to elections held on or after that date
