Persons who comply with the reporting requirement receive immunity from criminal prosecution for state law offenses related to firearm storage

Chiefs of police and sheriffs must report lost or stolen firearms to the Commissioner of Public Safety within seven days of receiving notification

Effective date is August 1, 2026, applying to acts committed on or after that date
