Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are added as eligible professions under Minnesota's Health Professional Education Loan Forgiveness Program (Minnesota Statutes section 144.1501)

Eligible physical therapists and physical therapist assistants must agree to practice in designated rural areas or underserved urban communities to qualify for loan forgiveness

Participants must commit to a minimum three-year full-time service obligation beginning no later than March 31 following completion of required training

$500,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2027 specifically for loan forgiveness for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants

"Designated rural areas" are defined as cities or townships outside the seven-county metropolitan area, excluding Duluth, Mankato, Moorhead, Rochester, and St. Cloud
