Cloquet Area Fire District may impose a local sales and use tax of up to 0.5% if approved by voters in separate elections in Cloquet and Scanlon, with the tax applying only in cities where voters approve it.

Tax revenues fund up to $31,000,000 for construction of Ambulance and Fire Station I, plus collection and administration costs.

The district may issue bonds up to $31,000,000 (plus issuance costs) to finance the project, with bonds excluded from debt limitations and not requiring a separate bond election.

Tax expires at the earlier of 20 years after first imposed or when sufficient revenue is collected to cover project costs and bond obligations.
