Expands the list of duties exclusive to licensed peace officers to include: drafting and presenting search/arrest warrants, preparing criminal investigation summaries for prosecutors, accepting primary investigative responsibility, interviewing criminal suspects, conducting lineups, operating emergency vehicles with lights/sirens activated, and wearing peace officer uniforms or badges.

Prohibits non-officers from performing any action that agency policies designate as exclusive to peace officers.

Requires investigations into unauthorized practice of law enforcement duties to be conducted by an agency other than the one being investigated, with prosecution handled by the attorney general.

Classifies unauthorized practice of law enforcement duties as a misdemeanor, escalating to a gross misdemeanor for repeat offenders.

Effective date: August 1, 2026.
