Noncompliant driver's licenses and ID cards (those not meeting REAL ID requirements) must display immigration status markings: "citizen" for U.S. citizens, "legal resident" for permanent lawful residents, or "temporary status" for those with temporary lawful status

REAL ID compliant licenses issued to U.S. citizens must be marked "U.S. Citizen" on the face and in the machine-readable portion

REAL ID compliant licenses issued to persons with temporary lawful status must be marked "temporary" on the face and in the machine-readable portion

Removes current prohibition preventing the commissioner and driver's license agents from inquiring about an applicant's citizenship, immigration status, or lawful presence during the application process

Application forms must now identify the applicant's citizenship, immigration status, or lawful presence documentation, reversing the previous restriction against collecting such information
