Law enforcement officers may request that pawnbrokers not sell property for 10 days, which can be done verbally, electronically, by fax, or by other designated means.

Law enforcement officers with probable cause may place a hold order on property they believe is misappropriated, which must include the officer's name and identification, pawnshop location, property description with serial numbers, and expiration date.

Initial hold orders may not exceed 2 months, with the possibility of two successive 1-month extensions upon written notification before expiration.

Upon hold order expiration, pawnbrokers must notify the issuing law enforcement officer that title will vest in the pawnbroker after a 10-day waiting period.

Gross negligence or willful noncompliance with these provisions by a pawnbroker may result in license suspension or revocation.
