Boards of directors for ambulance, fire protection, school, and other special purpose districts may appoint and employ district police officers to protect persons and property on their public buildings, properties, and facilities.

District police officers must take an oath of office, receive a certificate of appointment, and possess the same arrest authority as peace officers, with the ability to expel violators from district premises.

District police officers must complete a 320-hour training course prescribed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol before appointment, unless already licensed as peace officers under chapter 590.

Violations of board-prescribed rules and regulations constitute class B misdemeanors prosecuted by the district's legal officer in associate circuit court, or the board may impose fines up to $500 for breaches of peace.

Section 1 is declared an emergency measure effective upon passage and approval to protect persons and property in areas controlled by special purpose districts.
