HB 1449 Summary

• Adds advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) under chapter 335 to the definition of "approved health care provider" authorized to prescribe physical therapy referrals in section 334.506.

• Allows physical therapists to initiate treatment for new injuries or illnesses based on prescriptions from APRNs, the same as prescriptions from physicians, physician assistants, chiropractors, dentists, and podiatrists.

• Updates section 334.613 to include APRNs in the list of qualified health care providers under whose prescription and direction physical therapists must practice when treating patients.

• Makes conforming changes to physical therapy discipline and licensing provisions to recognize APRNs as authorized prescribers alongside other regulated health care professionals.
