Beginning August 28, 2010, all new fire protection district decrees of incorporation must provide for electing five persons as the first board of directors, with all members serving three-year terms instead of staggered terms of varying lengths.

Any existing fire protection district with fewer than five board members must increase to five directors at the next available election, with new members serving three-year terms.

The bill modifies section 321.120 of Missouri law regarding fire protection district board member elections and term lengths.

Removes previous provisions allowing districts to have three-member boards with staggered six-year, four-year, and two-year terms for initial directors.
