MO HB1827

Repeals and replaces section 320.097 of Missouri law regarding fire department employee residency requirements.

Prohibits fire departments from requiring employees to reside within their service area if the only available public school district is unaccredited or provisionally accredited within the past five years.

Allows employees who relocated due to school district accreditation issues to remain outside the fire department's geographical area even if the school district later becomes fully accredited.

Removes previous requirements for cities to hold voter approval by September 1, 2008 and eliminates the 1% salary forfeiture provision for employees living outside city limits.

Does not recognize charter schools as public schools for purposes of determining residency requirement exemptions.
