Each district school board shall require K-12 public schools to provide disability history and awareness instruction during October of each year, designated as "Disability History and Awareness Month"

Students shall receive intensive instruction expanding their knowledge of individuals with disabilities, the history of disability, and the disability rights movement, including civil rights developments and contributions of national leaders with disabilities

Instruction shall be integrated into existing curriculum through lesson plan supplements, school assemblies, or school-related activities and may be delivered by qualified school personnel or guest speakers, with emphasis on including individuals with disabilities

Three instructional goals include: understanding disability as a natural part of human experience with equal rights for all citizens, creating inclusive school communities that acknowledge students' unique gifts and contributions, and reaffirming commitment to full inclusion and equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities

Institutions of higher education within the state are encouraged to conduct and promote disability awareness activities on their campuses
