Department of Revenue may issue special event motor vehicle auction licenses for auctions where at least 90 percent of vehicles are 10 years old or older, limited to 3 consecutive calendar days and no more than 2 times per year.

Applicants must submit license applications at least 90 days before the auction and are limited to no more than 2 special event auctions per calendar year.

Licensees must submit a report within 10 days after the auction listing the make, model, year, and vehicle identification number of all vehicles auctioned, with violation being a class A misdemeanor.

License fee is $1,000, with an additional $500 administrative fee per vehicle auctioned in violation of the 90 percent requirement; applicants must also provide a $100,000 corporate surety bond or irrevocable letter of credit.

Special event auction licensees are exempt from most requirements in section 301.560, cannot issue dealer or temporary plates, and must provide buyers with current seller contact information.
