Missouri General Assembly affirms the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess firearms unconnected with militia service and for traditionally lawful purposes, including self-defense within the home.

Assembly recognizes the Supreme Court's 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller decision establishing that the core lawful purpose of the Second Amendment is self-defense.

Missouri General Assembly strongly opposes any federal legislation, taxation, or regulation of firearms and ammunition that would unconstitutionally infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives instructed to send properly inscribed copies of the resolution to the President of the United States Senate, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the Missouri Congressional delegation.
