Spartan Light Metal Products, a family-owned magnesium die casting company since 1961 employing over 600 people, is being harmed by U.S. International Trade Commission tariffs 731-TA-1071 and 731-TA-1072 on imported magnesium alloys

Tariffs allow the nation's sole magnesium producer to set prices without competition, while foreign competitors can purchase magnesium at global prices and export finished products tariff-free, creating an unfair market advantage

Approximately 60% of Spartan Light Metal Products' magnesium business for 2011 is disappearing, and U.S. automobile manufacturers face cost and weight disadvantages against foreign carmakers in meeting fuel economy requirements

Urges the President and U.S. Congress to either lift tariffs 731-TA-1071 and 731-TA-1072 on die cast magnesium alloys from China and Russia or impose similar tariffs on imported assemblies and products made from die cast magnesium alloys

Directs the Missouri House Chief Clerk to send inscribed copies of this resolution to President Barack Obama and each member of the Missouri Congressional delegation
