Recipients of the Legion of Merit military service award may apply for special motor vehicle license plates for any vehicle they own solely or jointly, excluding apportioned or commercial vehicles over 18,000 pounds gross weight.

Applicants must submit an application form provided by the Director of Revenue along with proof of Legion of Merit medal receipt.

License plates shall display "LEGION OF MERIT" in place of "SHOW-ME STATE," include an image of the Legion of Merit medal, use fully reflective material with a common color scheme, and be clearly visible at night.

An additional fee equal to the personalized license plate fee applies to each set of Legion of Merit plates, with no limit on the number of plates a qualified person may obtain for their vehicles.

License plates are non-transferable except that a registered co-owner may operate the vehicle with the plates for the remainder of the licensed year following the qualified person's death.
