Criminal investigators (special agents, special agents-in-charge, or administrators) of the Department of Revenue Criminal Investigations Bureau who meet chapter 590 requirements and hold a valid peace officer license may be appointed as peace officers by the department director.

Appointed investigators must take an oath to support the U.S. and Missouri constitutions and laws, receive a certificate of appointment filed with the secretary of state, and receive police powers to enforce laws related to state income tax, estate tax, motor vehicle taxes and fees, sales and use tax, and business licensure.

Department of Revenue shall determine firearms safety training content and provide certification and recertification training, with a minimum of 16 hours of firearms safety training required.

Certified investigators are exempt from section 571.030 firearm restrictions in the same manner as other specified peace officers.

Appointed investigators may exercise full peace officer powers and authority when working at the special request of any county sheriff, city police chief, or their designee.
