HB 2 - Education Budget Appropriations Summary

• Appropriates $5.266 billion total for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and State Board of Education for fiscal year 2011-2012, funded through General Revenue, Federal, and other designated funds.

• Provides $3.322 billion for distributions to free public schools through the School Foundation Program, including $3.004 billion for the Foundation Formula, $107.7 million for Transportation, and $144.6 million for Early Childhood Special Education.

• Allocates $255.3 million in federal funds for school food services reimbursement and establishes $760.6 million for School District Trust Fund distributions to public elementary and secondary schools.

• Funds specific education programs including $48.5 million for Division of Learning Services, $55.9 million for Vocational Rehabilitation, $29.3 million for Special Education excess costs, and $235.3 million for the Special Education Program.

• Transfers $1.95 billion from General Revenue Fund to State School Moneys Fund, $574.1 million to Outstanding Schools Trust Fund, and $354.5 million from Gaming Proceeds for Education Fund to Classroom Trust Fund.
