October is designated as "Walk & Bike to School Month" and the first Wednesday of October is designated as "Walk & Bike to School Day" to improve student safety and encourage walking and bicycling to school.

May is designated as "Missouri Bicycle Month," the third Friday of May is designated as "Bike to Work Day," and the week of Bike to Work Day is designated as "Bike to Work Week" to promote bicycling as transportation and recreation.

Walk & Bike to School Day and Month aim to promote physical activity, student health and fitness, improved academics, reduced congestion and pollution, and more livable communities.

Bike to Work Day, Week, and Month promote bicycle safety, road sharing, Missouri as a bicycle tourism destination, and benefits including health, economic development, and community vitality.
