Contractors who install or service fire sprinkler systems must register with the state fire marshal and obtain a certificate of registration valid for two years, renewable biennially.

Applicants must meet one of five qualification pathways: five years of fire sprinkler experience; employ a licensed professional engineer with fire protection degree; employ person with NICET Level IV certification and three years supervisory experience; employ person with NICET Level III certification and five years supervisory experience; or have credentials approved by advisory council.

Establishes a seven-member Fire Sprinkler System Advisory Council to guide the state fire marshal in administering the registration program, consisting of four experienced contractors, one insurance claims adjuster, one licensed professional engineer, and one state fire marshal representative.

All registered contractors must maintain general liability insurance with minimum one million dollars aggregate coverage including products and completed operations coverage.

State fire marshal may refuse, suspend, or revoke registrations for fraud, incompetence, misconduct, criminal conviction, or violation of registration requirements; revoked certificates require three-year waiting period before reapplication.
