Asthma rescue medications require a prescription from a licensed physician, physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner, with the school district designated as the patient and the prescription filled at a licensed pharmacy.

School nurses or trained employees supervised by the nurse may use asthma rescue medications on any student believed to be experiencing a life-threatening asthma episode based on their training.

Trained employees administering asthma rescue medications receive immunity from civil liability under the same provisions that apply to employees administering other lifesaving methods.
