Sets educational and certification requirements: medical laboratory scientists and categorical scientists require a baccalaureate degree and national certification exam; technicians require an associate degree; phlebotomists require a high school diploma

Permits existing practitioners certified as of December 26, 2012 to continue practicing for 12 months while applying for licensure; effective August 28, 2014, all new licensees must meet full educational and examination requirements

Violations of the act constitute a class A misdemeanor; the board may discipline licensees through censure, probation (up to 5 years), suspension (up to 3 years), or revocation of license
