Fines imposed for violations detected by automated traffic enforcement systems must be distributed to the local school district where the violation occurred for transportation purposes.

Funds distributed to school districts from automated enforcement fines shall not be distributed through the standard school funding mechanism under section 163.031.

"Automated traffic enforcement system" is defined as a camera or optical device that records images of a motor vehicle, operator, or license plate to establish evidence of traffic law violations.

Automated speed enforcement systems are included in the definition and consist of devices with motor vehicle sensors (photographic, radar, or laser devices) that record vehicle speed and capture images of the vehicle and license plate when exceeding the posted speed limit.
