SB 800 Summary

• Repeals and replaces section 170.015 of Missouri law regarding requirements for human sexuality and sexually transmitted disease instruction in schools.

• Requires all course materials to be medically and factually accurate, based on peer-reviewed projects demonstrated to influence healthy behavior, and age-appropriate.

• Mandates instruction present abstinence as the only sure way to avoid pregnancy or sexually transmitted infection, and provide information on health benefits and side effects of contraceptives and barrier methods.

• Requires schools to notify parents of the basic content of human sexuality instruction and the parent's right to remove students from any part of the instruction.

• Makes all curriculum materials and names and affiliations of presenters available for public inspection prior to use in actual instruction.
