Sheriffs receive $20 per item for service of summons, writs, or court orders in civil cases, and $10 per subpoena, plus mileage at the IRS rate for motor vehicle use.

Charges are collected by the court clerk as court costs and must be paid before service is rendered, unless court costs are waived by the state, county, or municipality.

Sheriffs must pay all charges received into the county treasury, with funds up to $50,000 per calendar year held in a special fund that the sheriff may spend for equipment and services to support sheriff office operations.

Any funds exceeding $50,000 in a calendar year are credited to the county general revenue fund, and the special fund does not lapse at the end of the fiscal year.

Sheriffs receive an additional $10 per service of summons, writs, subpoenas, or court orders, with these funds paid to the state treasurer for deposit in the deputy sheriff salary supplementation fund.
