HB 382 Summary

• Excludes representatives of the Department of Revenue and their designees from the definition of "peace officers," "law enforcement officers," and "public safety officers" across nine sections of Missouri law.

• Modifies definitions in statutes governing the Missouri State Highway Patrol, municipal sanctuary policies, line of duty compensation, wiretapping, criminal code, civil disorder, peace officer standards and training, crime victim compensation, and public safety medals of valor.

• Creates consistent language across all affected statutes explicitly stating Department of Revenue representatives are not considered peace or law enforcement officers for purposes of these provisions.

• Effective January 1, 2009 for sanctuary policy provisions; other sections take effect upon passage.

• Does not substantively change the powers or duties of any agency, but clarifies that Department of Revenue personnel are excluded from protections and responsibilities afforded to traditional peace officers.
