Contractors installing or servicing fire sprinkler systems may register with the State Fire Marshal for a certificate of registration valid for two years, renewable biennially.

Applicants must employ or contract with either a licensed professional engineer in fire protection, a NICET Level III or IV certified professional in water-based system layout, or a NICET Level III certified professional in automatic sprinkler system layout.

Registered contractors may use the title "certified fire sprinkler contractor" and must display their certificate in a conspicuous place at their business; no other person or organization may use this title.

Applicants must maintain general liability insurance coverage of at least one million dollars aggregate per policy year including products and completed operations coverage.

State Fire Marshal may refuse registration, suspend, or revoke certificates for fraud, misconduct, criminal convictions, incompetence, violation of regulations, or operating without required insurance coverage; revoked individuals must wait three years before reapplying.
