Public schools and charter schools serving grades 9-12 shall provide enrolled students instruction in first aid and may provide instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Instruction may be embedded in health education courses or after-school programs and must be based on American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or nationally recognized evidence-based emergency programs.

Hands-on psychomotor skills development and skills testing must be incorporated into instruction.

Teachers are not required to be certified trainers unless instruction is designed to result in student certification; schools may partner with local first responder organizations for hands-on practice and testing.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education may promulgate rules to implement this section under chapter 536 authority.
