Health carriers offering health benefit plans delivered or renewed in Missouri on or after January 1, 2014, must cover prescription eye drop refills prior to the last day of the prescribed dosage period if authorized by the prescribing health care provider and the carrier is notified.

Early refill coverage for prescription eye drops cannot be subject to a coverage restriction for early refill of prescription renewals.

Deductibles and co-payments for eye drop refill coverage must be no greater than those applied to other similar health care services provided by the health benefit plan.

The requirement does not apply to supplemental insurance policies, including life care contracts, accident-only policies, specified disease policies, hospital policies with fixed daily benefits, Medicare supplement policies, long-term care policies, or short-term major medical policies of six months or less.

The law terminates on January 1, 2017.
