Senate Bill No. 50 Summary

• Adds section 188.125 to Missouri law to protect alternatives-to-abortion agencies and their officers, agents, employees, and volunteers' rights to freely assemble and engage in religious practices and speech without governmental interference.

• Preempts political subdivisions from enacting ordinances or regulations that prohibit, restrict, or interfere with these agencies' counseling, referrals, education, advertising, or communications with clients and the public.

• Permits political subdivisions to enforce zoning, land use, building, and fire code regulations provided they treat alternatives-to-abortion agencies the same as similarly situated agencies and do not circumvent the bill's intent.

• Defines alternatives-to-abortion agencies as maternity homes, pregnancy resource centers, or entities with the primary purpose of assisting pregnant women in carrying pregnancies to term and supporting childcare or adoption services.

• Authorizes courts to order injunctive relief, damages, reasonable attorney's fees, costs, and expenses in actions enforcing this section, with these remedies in addition to other available legal remedies.
