HB1708 Summary

• State board of education shall adopt no more than 75 academic performance standards developed by work groups composed primarily of classroom teachers selected by professional teachers' organizations.

• State board of education is prohibited from implementing, adopting, or taking any action relating to Common Core State Standards, and any prior actions taken before August 28, 2014 that are not in compliance with state statutes are declared void.

• School districts and charter schools are prohibited from adopting curricular frameworks derived from Common Core State Standards or accepting public or private money for their implementation or supporting materials.

• State board of education shall not adopt assessments based on Common Core State Standards, and student assessment data shall not be transferred out of state for reporting to non-state education entities.

• New section 161.855 declares that the state board of education, department of elementary and secondary education, and school districts shall not implement Common Core State Standards or substantially similar learning standards, and any prior adoption or implementation actions are void.
