School districts that score less than 75% on their annual performance report must consider whether to continue offering school-supported sports within six months of receiving that score.

The same consideration requirement applies within six months after the state board of education classifies a district as unaccredited or provisionally accredited.

The school board must hold a public meeting after 5:30 p.m. under open meeting law (chapter 610) with at least one hour dedicated to public testimony on the issue.

If the district issued revenue bonds for athletic facility construction under section 164.231, it must disclose the financial implications of continuing or discontinuing sports at the meeting.

The school board must vote on whether to continue offering school-supported sports within 30 business days after the public hearing concludes.
