HB 2285 Summary

• Modifies prescription drug container labeling requirements to allow "other unique identifier" in addition to sequential number for tracking purposes.

• Creates new Section 338.165 establishing hospital pharmacy regulations, granting the Department of Health and Senior Services sole authority to inspect hospitals while allowing the Board of Pharmacy to inspect non-hospital portions and investigate complaints.

• Authorizes joint rulemaking between the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Board of Pharmacy to govern medication distribution and therapy services by pharmacists in hospitals, excluding prescription dispensing authority.

• Establishes that hospital pharmacists providing medication therapy services must obtain a certificate of medication therapeutic plan authority and allows medication dispensing by hospital pharmacies under prescriptions or medication orders.

• Defines "Class B Hospital Pharmacy" as a pharmacy owned or operated by a hospital or hospital system and exempts existing hospital pharmacies holding permits on the effective date from paying fees if they apply by January 1, 2015.
