Senate Bill No. 709 Summary

• Repeals and replaces sections 42.170, 42.200, and 42.220 relating to military medal programs and creates two new sections (42.310 and 42.315).

• Establishes medallion, medal, and certificate programs for World War II veterans (December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946), Korean Conflict veterans (June 27, 1950 - January 31, 1955), and Vietnam War veterans (February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975).

• Creates new Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn Medallion Program for veterans who served March 19, 2003 - December 15, 2011.

• Creates new Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm Medallion Program for veterans who served August 7, 1990 - June 7, 1991.

• Expands eligibility to include Missouri National Guard members regardless of residency status, and makes awards available to veterans regardless of service location or age at enlistment, and covers deceased veterans who met criteria at time of death.
