First-time sexually violent offenders may be required to undergo medroxyprogesterone acetate treatment (chemical castration) as a condition of release, in addition to other punishments

Second or subsequent sexually violent offense convictions mandate the treatment as a condition of release, unless a court assessment determines treatment would not be effective

Offenders who voluntarily undergo a court-approved permanent surgical alternative are exempt from the chemical treatment requirement

The Department of Corrections must promulgate rules to administer the treatment program, subject to Chapter 536 rulemaking procedures

"Sexually violent offense" is defined by reference to section 632.480, RSMo
