Beginning in school year 2016-2017, school districts may satisfy attendance requirements with 1,080 hours of actual pupil attendance with no minimum number of school days required, replacing the previous requirement of 174 days and 1,044 hours for five-day weeks or 142 days and 1,044 hours for four-day weeks

Kindergarten programs would require a minimum of 540 hours of actual pupil attendance with no minimum number of school days, up from 522 hours previously

School calendars must include 36 make-up hours for inclement weather (replacing the previous 6 make-up days requirement), with districts required to make up the first 36 hours lost plus half of any additional hours lost up to 48 hours

Section 171.029 allowing four-day school weeks would be repealed effective July 1, 2016, as the hours-based system eliminates the need for separate four-day week provisions

The maximum school day length restriction of seven hours would apply to all schools, removing the previous exemption for four-day school week programs
