Transportation development districts that fail to timely submit annual financial statements to the state auditor face fines up to $500 per day, with violations reported to the Department of Revenue for collection

Fine revenues collected (minus up to 2% retained by the Department of Revenue for collection costs) are distributed annually to county schools, following the same distribution method as other state penal fines

Transportation development district boards must notify the state auditor when the district is established at their first meeting

Petition audits of transportation districts by the state auditor must be paid by the district, with costs deposited in the petition audit revolving trust fund under section 29.230

Audit costs are capped at the greater of 3% of gross revenues or 3% of expenditures made by the transportation district
