Motorcycle and motortricycle operators aged 21 and older may ride without protective headgear if they carry first-party medical insurance with minimum coverage of $50,000 for accident-related injuries

Riders under 21 years of age and all passengers under 21 must continue to wear protective headgear at all times while the vehicle is in motion

Operators aged 21 and older who hold only an instruction permit must still wear protective headgear regardless of insurance status

Operators choosing to ride without a helmet must maintain proof of financial responsibility under Chapter 303 and provide proof of qualifying insurance coverage upon request

Failure to wear required protective headgear remains an infraction with a maximum fine of $25 and no court costs or license points assessed
