Licensed child care facilities serving infants under one year old must implement and maintain a written safe sleep policy following American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations to prevent sudden infant death syndrome and sudden unexpected infant deaths.

All employees caring for infants under one year old must complete department-approved safe sleep training every three years.

Facilities must obtain written instructions signed by a licensed healthcare provider if an infant requires alternative sleep positions or special sleeping arrangements.

The Department of Health and Senior Services must amend existing rules to comply with AAP recommendations, including prohibiting bumper pads, pillows, blankets, and other soft or loose bedding in cribs and sleep environments.

Designated as an emergency act, taking effect immediately upon passage and approval.
