Licensed hospitals must provide written notice to patients admitted under observational status during intake, whenever status changes, and upon discharge

Discharge notice must include the duration of the patient's inpatient status, observational status, or both

Written notices must state whether the patient is under inpatient or observational status and warn that observation status may affect Medicare, MO HealthNet, or private insurance coverage for hospital services, medications, and post-discharge care at skilled nursing facilities

Notices must recommend patients contact their health insurance provider to understand the implications of observation status

Department of Health and Senior Services shall promulgate rules and develop a standard acknowledgment form; rules become effective only if compliant with chapter 536 rulemaking procedures
