Candidates for city, town, village, or township offices must provide proof to election authorities that they are current on state income tax, personal property tax, and real property tax on their residence

Required documentation includes Missouri Department of Revenue receipts or statements showing state income tax payment (or no taxes owed) for the two fiscal years prior to the filing deadline

Candidates must also submit county property tax receipts for both personal and real property taxes on their residence for the two preceding fiscal years

Failure to provide proof of tax payment by the filing deadline results in automatic disqualification from running for that office

These requirements are in addition to existing candidate qualifications, including the affidavit system where candidates can be disqualified and barred for an entire election cycle if found to have falsely claimed tax compliance
