Members of the Missouri General Assembly summoned for jury duty during a legislative session may receive an extension of up to six months by providing written notice to the court clerk confirming their status as a current legislator and that the assembly is in session.

The bill amends Section 494.430, RSMo, adding a new subsection specifically addressing legislative members while retaining all existing excusal categories for jury service.

Existing excusal categories remain unchanged, including prior jury service within two years, nursing mothers, public safety personnel, health care providers, those facing undue hardship, and religious institution employees with prohibitions against jury service.

The legislative extension is automatic upon written notice, unlike hardship excusals which require court approval and supporting documentation.
